#0223 - R.I.P. OZZY - 07/23/2025
Tons of Aussie and Sabbath on deck. So many good songs and so many good memories. First concert I ever saw, like, big show. I'm not gonna count Ninja Turtles and Pocatello as a show because they weren't really playing their instruments. Alright.
That was a, that was some kind of performance. It wasn't a concert. First big concert I ever went to was Ozzfest ninety seven. I was lucky enough that my parents were cool and let me go with my friends, Joe and Danielle, to Las Vegas to see Ozzfest ninety seven. I I think I was, like, 14 or 15.
And, the lineup was just incredible. Alright? You had both Black Sabbath and Ozzy doing, you know, Ozzy solo at one show. And that's that's just part of how awesome the lineup was. But the very first show I got to see, just like Lou Brutus, Lou Brutus's first show was Black Sabbath.
My first show, Black Sabbath, along with, again, Ozzy solo. Plus, Marilyn Manson, Pantera, typo negative, fear factory, power man, drain, downset, neurosis, coal chamber, vision of disorder was a killer lineup. I mean, I couldn't have asked for a better first show, and Ozzy's drummer even gave me a drumstick at the end of the show. I mean, the first album that I ever purchased on my own was Black Sabbath's We Sold Our Souls for Rock and Roll. I've been an Ozzy and Black Sabbath fanatics, you know, since I was very young.
Sad day yesterday, but, you know, Ozzy went out, with a massive celebratory show. If you haven't seen any of the clips from, you know, Ozzy's final show, it it was just such an amazing celebration of the most legendary person in metal that will ever live. You know? And, so yesterday was it was sad for me for sure. You know, once I got home, I got thinking about the day and, you know, it it was not only Ozzy's, you know, the day Ozzy passed but it was my dad's birthday who's also no longer with us.
And, you know, so I started getting kind of bummed out, but, you know, luckily, got an amazing lady in my life who, she just makes me feel so much better all the time when she she's around so she showed up and, just made everything so much better. Becca, you're the best if you're listening. I don't know if she is or not. But anyway, gonna play tons of Aussie and Black Sabbath on the show today. I mean, I could fill up the whole show with amazing tracks from, you know, both the Aussie solo catalog and Black Sabbath.
So I'm sure it's gonna ramp up as the show goes on. Seems like we need to play as much Aussie and Sabbath as possible today. Peaches already did three hours of Ozzy and Sabbath yesterday. So, you know, we did have our K Bear tribute show, but seems like I gotta do my part too. It was crazy.
Do you know, we happen to be in here doing the noon hour live. Usually, we're prerecording it, but we wanted to give away Weird Al tickets. So, you know, we're sitting there doing a giveaway, and all of a sudden, the alert rolls in, you know, that that Ozzy had passed. So we had to completely, you know, change course and, and talk about it at as the world found out. That's, you know, one of the good things about real live radio.
You know? Having people in the building because most radio stations everything's pre recorded and there's you know nobody around so we were able to you know shift things for the day try to pay a proper tribute best we could and yeah. Gonna continue on today. So I hope you're having a good morning or a good whatever time if you're listening to this on demand and I guess you can't hear the songs you know but you could just play them you know just play some Ozzy you know if you're listening to this and it's been like months since this show just throw on some Ozzy or some black Sabbath it's never gonna be a bad idea you can't go wrong Alright. Well, let's keep going here.
Let's play some more. Let's play some more Ozzy. What should we do here? We have so many songs. Oh, let's play a sad one.
Yeah. We'll we'll start the hour with a sad Aussie song. Time to cry. Like I just posted on Facebook, I know that Peaches did an excellent tribute to the prince of darkness yesterday on his show, but that doesn't mean we can't keep it going here on the morning show. Right?
So tons of Ozzy and Sabbath coming your way today. I mean, when you've got decades and decades of killer songs, makes it pretty easy to fill up a radio show with it. So, yeah, my whole Facebook feed, like, the whole thing is Ozzy, which is, amazing to see because it's not just, you know, my rock and metal friends. It's, like, everybody. Even East Idaho News, every single post popping up has something to do with Ozzy.
So to see, you know, the type of impact that that one guy had on the music world, but not only the music world. I'm sure there are lots of people who maybe only know Ozzy from, The Osbournes. You know, the reality show? Yeah. Who would have thought?
I remember when that show came out. I was like, okay. Reality show about Ozzy and his family. We'll see how long this lasts. It lasted a long time, and it was an incredibly popular show.
Everybody loves Ozzy. RIP to the legend. Alright. And I will start just throwing in in some of my stupid radio content. But, yeah.
I just gotta say it's it's really cool to see, you know, just Ozzy everywhere all over my social media. Very, very cool. So, anyway, I'm gonna be back in a minute with more killer jams, and hopefully, I'll find something to talk about. Alright? Wish me luck.
The man, the myth, the legend, Ozzy, mister Crowley. What up? It's Victor Wilt. And, I mentioned this on Facebook. Peach has already did a very, very nice tribute to Ozzy show during the afternoon show yesterday.
So when I got here, I was kinda like, well, sprinkle in some songs here and there. But as the mornings gone on, it occurred to me, like, you you can't ever pay enough tribute to Ozzy. And there are a lot of, like, deep cuts that, you know, don't get radio airplay from, you know, Ozzy's solo catalog and Sabbaths. And so there's some songs that, I'm working on putting in the system here because I've got stories about them and things like that. So we're gonna go all Aussie and Sabbath for the morning show.
Why not? Right? This wasn't just any old rock star passing away. This was freaking Aussie. Alright?
So yeah. I don't know why it took me, you know, the first hour of the show to kinda figure out, like, why why not do both an afternoon and morning show tribute to the most legendary person in metal of all time? Why not? So I'm working on digging up some, some stuff we've never played on KhabAir, and, it it should be pretty fun. I've I've seen some quotes floating around from Ozzy where he was talking about after he passed.
You know, he doesn't want people boo hooing and things like that. You know, he wants to be celebrated. So we're gonna have some fun. We'll get into some, Aussie related stories or music related stories that, you know, come from my personal life. But I will, of course, you know, do some just regular dumb radio content, you know, freak news and this and that.
So, yeah, working on building the old playlist here, and I hope you're having a good morning so far. Right now, I got some Sabbath for my lady. Ozzy straight to hell, and, there are some funny lines in that song. I remember when they were pushing it as a radio single. Me and Jade just laughing at a few of the lines in that song.
Yeah. That, album, was it the ordinary man? I think that's, what the what the name of the album was when it came out. It was so good. I had to play the entire thing on my morning show, and it ended up being my album of the year.
You know, when you've got artists that have been around for a really long time, You don't, or at least I don't, tend to have super high expectations for albums they put out really, really late in their career. But that album from Ozzy, Ordinary Man, it is amazing. Every song on it's good. Just start to finish, top notch. And, little story about that album.
You know, the guy who produced it's a guy named Andrew Watt, and I've talked about this on air before. Andrew Watt, currently one of the biggest producers in music. He's like Post Malone's right hand guy. He's the guy who produced Ordinary Man, worked with with Ozzy on the album, and it was just so good. I met Andrew Watt years and years ago at a radio convention.
He was just playing solo tunes, some unknown dude. So I talked to him. Could've stayed in touch. Did I? No.
Because I'm an idiot. And I always use it as a lesson to the younger DJs. Like, when, you know, you have the opportunity to interview an up and coming artist, you know, do so and stay in touch with them on social media because they'll remember that stuff. And you never know if they're gonna blow up into being one of the next biggest things in in rock and metal or or just in music period. Like, I don't know how many people Andrew Watt has worked with now, but it I mean, we're talking like Elton John and things like that.
It it's just crazy. So yeah, you know, always get out and see those small shows. You got touring bands coming through, you know, that maybe you've never heard of. Get out and see a show. Back when I was a teenager, lots of bands came through Pocatello that maybe a lot of people didn't know about.
Saw a post about this on Facebook just the other day. Somebody, discovered that there was a live audio recording of System of a Down at the Roach in Pocatello, And I think it was in Life in Idaho Falls. Maybe it was in Life in Pocatello. But, you know, they posted wow. Who was at this show?
Anybody go? And yeah. There there were some of us there. Probably 200. Yeah.
I seem to remember it being pretty packed. But you know the next time System of a Down after that came through the area, they were at what is now the Maverick Center. Alright. In one year's time, kinda like when we had Bad Omens in studio here. You know?
They were opening for Spirit Box and Under Oath. They stopped by to hang out with Phyllis. I think we were one of the first radio stations they'd ever done an interview with. Now look at Bad Omens. I don't know what size venues they're gonna be playing the next time they tour, but they're gonna be big because the last time we saw them was at, the Union Events Center, headlining the show.
And, they're probably gonna move to being, you know, an arena act, I would think. Sleep token, Somme and Boise, knitting factory, thousand capacity. You know? Next time they came well, there we go. Maverick Center.
So get out and see up and coming bands. You might, you know, get to meet the next big thing. Me and my friends, like, spent time hanging out with System of a Down. You know, I learned riffs from Darren in the band. He he taught me riffs.
It's crazy. And that reminds me I need to bother his, record label people. We've been playing a new song from, Darren's side project or or I guess in System of a Down doesn't put out new music we'll just call it his, main project, Scars on Broadway and I asked him about doing an interview because Darren, the last time I talked to him was when I was, yeah, like 15 and he's like, yeah. Next time we come through, bring a bring me a copy of your your band's music so I can check it out. And then they came through, but they were at the Maverick Center.
There was no tracking down, you know, as a teenager. It's not like I worked in radio and had contacts or something. There was no way I was gonna track down a member of System of Down at the Maverick Center. Alright? This wasn't gonna happen.
It was called the eCenter at the time, I believe. But, anyway, we'll be back with more, Ozzy or Sabbath, and then I'll I'll try to dig up some freak news. We'll see what I could find. Hang on. And welcome to Shell Peaches.
What up? What's going on? Well, we're just, gonna do some Ozzy themed freak news today because I don't know if you're aware, but Ozzy did a lot of crazy things during his life. You ever read the book The Dirt? No.
What? There's so many rock things you need to do, Peaches. You know? You gotta you gotta read The Dirt because it's one of the craziest rock and roll books of all time. Motley Crue tells, a variety of stories about Ozzy in that book.
Did you watch the movie on Netflix? I did. Okay. Okay. So, you know, we can only talk about some of those.
Like, because some of it, I think if we discussed it on radio, it might just be a little bit too filthy. A JPA. A JPA. Yeah. Exactly.
But we could talk about him snorting ants. You know? Oh, I haven't heard about the story. Just getting down. You know?
I guess, with Motley Crue and Ozzy, they were always kinda trying to one up each other with crazy behavior, but Ozzy always won. He always won. And, one of the things he did, yeah, was I guess, I don't know if he rolled up a dollar bill or he had a straw or what. But there was just some ants marching in line. And, what a bad man.
I mean, so many legendary crazy stories about Ozzy. Of course, everybody knows about him biting the head off of a bat on stage. Yeah. You know? Somebody brought how do you get a live bat into a show?
You just keep it in your pocket? You know? Maybe it got stuck inside the venue. I don't know. No.
Like, somebody threw it on the stage. Oh. And it got, like, I think, dazed by the lights or something. He he thought it was a fake bat, so he just picks it up and and then yeah. He had to get rabies shots in his stomach.
You know, like people do now with Ozempic? No. Rabies shots in his stomach. Ozzy walked so his epic could run. That's right.
Dude, I mean, I I was pulling up crazy Ozzy stories, and some of them, I'm like, okay. We don't need to get into that. But this one's funny from when he was a kid. I guess, he didn't get along with his, metal shop teacher. So he would, heat up a penny for, like, three or four minutes and then would put it on his desk, the teacher's desk.
And at some point, the teacher finally picked the penny up and just burned the crap out of himself. And Ozzy got a good laugh, like, according to the the arc. I'm gonna have to try that one with Jade. Do we have a blow torch around here somewhere? I'm sure we do.
Yeah. I'll have to go check the Engineering Room, see what we can find there. I've got so many pages pulled up here about Ozzy and crazy things. Okay. Like, Ozzy, I don't know if you were aware of Peaches, but he used to do lots of drugs.
What what? I know. It might be shocking news, but Ozzy used to do lots of drugs. The reason he stopped taking LSD, because I guess he took it for, like he claims every day for two years straight, which that's I believe him. It's Ozzy, so I believe him too.
But he he went home to England, you know, off tour, and he said he took 10 hits of acid and went wandering in a field, and he came up across this horse and started talking to this horse for about an hour. And then at some point, the horse told him to f off. And he's like, okay. I'm I'm done. Not gonna take it anymore.
And another time in England, I guess Ozzy is a member of the Church of England, and, one of the, are they called vikers? Anyway, they they it it's like a priest paid paid the family a visit and, Ozzy's like, hey. Do you want some cake? And he, you know, so loaded, he didn't remember that this was cake that had been made with hash. So the priest is just passed out, and they had to carry him to a car and take him home.
And I guess the guy was, like, wasted for, like, three days. I mean, if you're gonna do that type of thing, you might as well get it from Ozzy. Right? There you go. You know?
I mean, I'm sure now that priest, if he's still around, he's got a story for the grandkids. I'm sure the priest is gone. Yeah. It does sound like that was kind of, back in the day. I mean, Ozzy infamously, was arrested and banned from the Alamo because he peed on it.
Oh, that's right. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Dude, there's there's a million of these stories, you know, walking into a, record meeting with a bunch of executives and Sharon had given him a couple doves put in his coat, you know, to come out and, like, set these doves free and, you know, like, you know, let them fly into the air and do this, you know, neat moment. But Ozzy's all hammered, bites the head off one of the doves, you know, Just, horrified everyone in the room.
And, I've I've seen pictures of that actually. So because, you know, it was supposed to be this big, you know, moment, you know, promoting a new album or something like that. So they're taking photos. I mean, I can go on and on and on with Ozzy freak news. One time, I guess, he liked to play pranks on his fellow black Sabbath members.
So he's standing at the urinal with drummer, bill ward, and he had some kind of aerosol spray. I don't know what it was for, but he decided to spray Bill, you know, down below, and it was a product it was a product that was not supposed to be sprayed on skin. It, like, specifically said, warning, do not get on skin. And, I I guess not only was Bill in lots of paint, but he was very sick for a while afterward. I don't know.
I I could probably do crazy Ozzy stories for the rest of the show. I did. I I sent you that clip this morning of him on the Osborns when he's cussing out the cat for, almost touching his chicken. He's like, Gru, Gus, I don't know what your name is, but if you touch this chicken, your name is dead. He's screaming at this cat and sitting on the kitchen counter.
Yeah. I I my whole Facebook feed's Ozzy, which is pretty cool. Lots of clips from The Osbournes popping up. I mean, I don't watch a lot of reality TV, but I I definitely watched that show back in the day because Ozzy, he was funny. You know, I I don't think a lot of people, if they never saw that show, realized how hilarious Ozzy, you know, just was as a person.
There was an interview I watched with Sharon, and that was when she was talking about how she fell in love with him, that it was because he was you know, the first thing that got her was he was so funny. You know? Just a madman and just really funny and witty. So, yeah, we're gonna continue playing Ozzy and Sabbath songs. I'm putting in some deep cuts.
If for some reason, children of the grave was not in the system at all, so I had to That well, yeah. There's there's a variety of songs that I, you know, have looked at, but I'm like, why aren't these in the system? N I b wasn't in there? The Primus version? Oh, no.
I don't know about the Primus version. I just I tried searching n I b, and there was nothing. Because we used to play the Primus version all the time. Yeah. Yeah.
We've we've got that one in the system. Okay. So that one's pretty fun. I'm gonna start the hour. Well, I guess the hour all already started, but I'm gonna play a track from the Osmosis album.
And, that was one of the first Ozzy albums that I got, like, really into. You know, I got into Sabbaths first. Mhmm. And then, you know, I think I got into Blizzard of Oz and, Diary of a Madman. But, it was a newer album at the time, Osmosis, And there's a great track called Perry Mason.
I don't know if you played it on your tribute show yesterday. Did. Alright. Well, we're gonna play it again because I haven't heard it in a long time. And, yeah, don't worry, everybody.
I'm I'm lining up some cool stuff. Hang on. Ozzy Perry Mason, rest in peace to the just most legendary person in metal of all time. There will never be another Ozzy. That's for sure.
So the, track I've got going in the background here, Super Tsar. When I first started doing the morning show for some of you who've been a long time listener and are up really early every day, This was the intro to my show every single day for a long time. I don't know at what point I stopped just like playing an intro and I just start yapping but you know I wanted a big epic intro like some of the other radio shows I listen to like, Opie and Anthony would use the song ecstasy of gold which Metallica also uses as their intro at every one of their shows. So I was like, I need some kind of a big epic intro for my radio show Black Sabbath Supertzar. It it was just a perfect fit.
Anyway, we're we're binging Ozzy and Sabbath today on the show. We'll talk crazy Ozzy stories, things like that and, I'm gonna tell you about my first broadcast show and another Black Sabbath song after we take a quick break here. But but if you want a little bit of, Victor Wilt history that involves Sabbath, I I got that coming your way. So hang on just a minute. We'll be right back and, yeah.
It's gonna be a fun show. Alright? Because Ozzy would want us to celebrate and have fun, not boo hoo. Though I did feel sad yesterday but, doing better today. Still need a nap, though.
Anyway, back in a minute. Alright. We're back. And if you're just tuning in, paying tribute yet again today to the legend, the prince of darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, who I'm I'm sure you have to know at this point, passed away. And, if you somehow didn't hear that news, I'm sorry to to break it to you.
But I think if you've been on social media in the last twenty four hours, you your feed's gotta look like mine. I mean, it's nothing but news about Aussie and people paying tribute. So, Peaches did a great tribute show during the afternoon show yesterday. And when I got here today, the first hour of the show, I was like, I'll just sprinkle in a few Ozzie and Sabbath tracks throughout the show since Peaches already did its thing, but it was like, this is Ozzie. Alright?
We're talking about Ozzie here. I'm gonna do the same thing. So we're doing nothing but Ozzy and Sabbath tunes for the rest of the show. And back when I was, I think I was 13 or 14, that's when I did my first broadcast show. It was at, POCA Television twelve, the local public access television station in Pokey.
And it was a music show, basically like what I do now. But there were, you know, cameras in the room that were operating, you know, the the entire time. We'd take calls, play songs. I'd get in trouble because at the time I started, there were no rules on, you know, language or anything that you could play. By the end of my time doing my show, I was no longer allowed to do a live show, and I was late at night.
And that's when I finally just was like, okay. You know? I'm not doing a live afternoon show. This isn't as fun. I'll go ahead and stop that.
And then, you know, eventually down the road, got into radio here at Kay Bear. But that show I did as a teenager on channel twelve, I named after a Black Sabbath song, and I'm pretty sure this song's never been played on the radio. May maybe somewhere. It it's a deep cut, and it's, it's a prog rock epic that's, like, ten minutes long, but I needed an epic name for my show. So why not base it on an epic song?
I called my show back then Megalomania. If you haven't heard this one, I hope you like it. Black Sabbath megalomania paying tribute to the prince of darkness, the one and only Ozzy Osborne today who passed away. I've I've read two things yesterday or the day before. I don't know.
I haven't dug into any of the updated news articles today because I've just been listening to the music. You know? Kinda nice. Don't have to dig up any radio prep or anything. I am trying to dig up crazy Ozzy stories and things like that because they're fun.
He was a madman. And speaking of a madman, well, I think this next track, pretty underrated as an Aussie tune. Definitely one of my favorites. Title track from his second solo album, Diary of a Madman. Rest in peace to the prince of darkness, the legend, the one and only Ozzy Osbourne.
We're gonna just con continue playing tribute today. Getting a lot of tracks into the system here that I don't know why they weren't in the system to begin with, but, you know, better better late than never, I guess. And while I was, digging up some songs, I was reading a story about Ozzy going to the, White House Correspondents Dinner. I guess he got way hammered before he showed up, and he met the president at the time, George w Bush, and he was like three bottles of wine in. And I guess w was like maybe we shouldn't have invited this guy because Ozzy's like you know just screaming being over the top you know if you're gonna get hammered and be out of control and belligerent in a room full of politicians is the best place to do it and I mean anybody else probably would have been arrested but they're like well it's Aussie you know what did we expect Anyway just to yeah try to picture George Bush just embarrassed in a room because Ozzy's being a maniac I love that love it anyhow after this little break we're gonna listen to more Ozzy and Sabbath.
That's where we're gonna do the entire show. So digging up some fun songs. K? I got I got, Snowblind coming up next. Get ready.
