#0349 - Do Men Or Women Have Worse Smelling Farts? - 04/23/2026
Speaker 1: I'm very tired. I'm just exhausted. We stayed up late watching Shutter Island, which, you know, a good movie. But I don't even want to know what time I went to bed. It was too late.
Hold myself. I'm going to go to bed bright and early. So I'm all energized today.
Get ready to get... Nope. Okay, maybe before Jade gets here I can power nap in the studio. I guess I'll crack the caffeine. That'll do.
So on the show today, coming up in about a half hour, I'll let you know at times to be listening for the secret sound. Take a look at how things are sitting with that right now. Not sure how high the jackpot got yesterday. 851 bucks. A lot of money up for grabs with the secret sound. Powered by the advocates, so make sure you're listening at 7.05 so you know what time's today to play. And let's take a look at the weather brought to you by Sinclair Lubricants.
Hard work is their heritage, made American, made true. All right, what's going on in the region? More rain? Gosh, yesterday was that crappy. It was cold.
It sucked. I don't know, maybe a little bit of rain this morning and then it looks like rain and snow this morning. Great. Probably not very much though. Looking at a high of about 55. Tomorrow going to be chilly again. Weekends chilly, good weekend to just hunker down.
Lay low. So yeah, if you were looking to do some yard work, sorry. All right.
That caffeine's got to go down. Okay, I was reading a thread on Reddit called Medical Folk of Reddit. What's the most foul and disgusting thing you've encountered with a patient who is oblivious to their own condition? Now, I was reading through that. I'm not going to share that with you.
It's way too early for that type of... So I guess we could look at adult cheat codes that changed your life. Sure. Even though I'm an adult, yeah.
Technically. I could probably use some cheat codes from time to time. I know that somebody in here is going to be like, get a good amount of sleep. Don't want to hear it. Not today. Okay, knowing when to not talk is a skill. That's true. I'm pretty good at that one. Sometimes though, I just lose my patience. And occasionally things will come out and then you go, geez, I should have kept my mouth shut. Try to avoid just immediately reacting sometimes.
What's the asking directly saves you so much time and overthinking? Yeah, that's very true. That's a decent bit of advice there. Oh, I'm so tired. Ah, let's see here.
Realizing that nobody is thinking about you as much as you think. Yeah, that's good. Because I didn't really overthink that one. And chances are people are just living their own lives and up to their own things.
Oh, let's see here. Treat your time like money once you start saying no to things that don't add value. Everything else in life levels up. All right.
There it is. Sleep and sunlight. Fix those and half your problems just disappear. Again, it's tough to go to bed at nine o'clock. You know, try it. All right. Just seeing people even discussing sleep makes me grouchy.
And my back still hurts. All right. I'd be propping time. Well, if you hang around me long enough, a phrase you might hear from time to time is, Huh? What? What? Can you say that again? Sorry.
What was that? Yeah, I was reading an article here or a post online about people using subtitles. Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now, even when the show is already in English? I did find it surprising when my kids started using subtitles all the time. Then I started doing it. Again, you hear me often enough go, What? Huh?
I have a constant ringing in my ears because, you know, many years of concert attendance and wearing headphones for work many hours a day. Yeah. I don't hear very good. Subtitles are great. And what I find funny is that there are people who will watch a show with the dubbing and the subtitles.
It's like, why? Why wouldn't you watch it in the original language the movie was filmed in if you're going to have the subtitles on anyway? Like, every movie is so much worse if you watch it with the dubbing. Like, try to watch Squid Game with the English dubbing. It is so distracting and the voice acting so bad. Just leave it up to the original actors and then read the subtitles. Yeah, it might even be good for your brain.
I don't know. I don't know if reading subtitles is good for your brain, but reading is. I got to remember to pack a book. I was talking with Becca about the enjoyable activity of maybe just sitting by the pool and reading a book.
That's when you know you're getting old. Like, all right, we're going to Vegas. What should we do?
Let's sit by the pool and read a good book. Yeah. I'm just feeling really lazy today. Very tired. Let's see what this person wants. Kay, Barry, you're live on the show. Keep that in mind. Who's this? Hey, it's Zach. How's it going? Zach, doing pretty good. What's up, dude?
Speaker 2: Hey, so I talk about subtitles movies. You got to watch ghost stories in English dub. That is hilarious.
Speaker 1: Ghost stories with English dubbing? Okay, I don't know if I've seen ghost stories to begin with.
Speaker 2: That's an anime, but it's an old one and it's friggin' big. They let these guys just go off script.
Speaker 1: All right. When I searched for ghost stories anime, one of the first things that popped up is what is the story behind the English dubs?
Speaker 2: Yes. All right. Looks like you can watch it for free on Pluto TV, so I might have to check it out. Thank you. All right, dude. Hey, you too, man. Appreciate the call, Zach. See ya.
All right. Yeah, I mean, sometimes a dubbing can make things pretty funny. So, might have to check out this ghost stories. It says it's a horror anime. Well, I guess it's called ghost stories, but all right. Never heard of it.
And it looks like it's very popular and the English dubbing must be pretty ridiculous if that's the first thing that pops up about the show online. All right. I'm going to, I just pounded a bunch of caffeine. It ain't doing anything to me.
I'm going to go, I guess, get something boring like water. You know, we've been plotting out all of this stuff around here. Lots of live broadcasts and things like that. Looking ahead to the summer, of course, got the big mellow luke of freedom celebration, 4th of July, river fest. And then I hear a poppy song come on and I'm like, no, wait a minute.
What have I committed myself to doing? And am I going to miss out on any shows I planned on attending because poppy's going to be in Salt Lake, but I don't remember when. So what you do when you're in this kind of a boat is you go to our website, kbear.fm. Same place. You can check out the secret sound information and you can find out about upcoming shows.
Yeah. Just sort by event type concert slash rock and then you get all the good ones. When the heck is poppy coming? Cause gotta go to the show. Poppy was one of the best shows I saw last year. Got pretty spoiled with shows last year, actually. Saw a lot of good ones sleep token. Even Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I got to put them on the list of best shows I saw last year.
I hope they bring them back this year. Okay, poppy July 31st. What day of the week is that? Seems like I recall it was not a weekend. Holy cow. Really? It's on a Friday night.
How could I be so lucky? Well, that rules. Alright. Don't even have to worry about PTO.
It's on. Anyway, I mean that shows away is out July 31st. But there are lots of other good shows coming our way. Tonight you could go see Clutch and Boise. Unprocessed is going to be in Salt Lake tomorrow. Got Halloween on the 25th at the Depot in Salt Lake.
What else we got here? 0936 at Kilby Court on the 26th. Electric Callboy on the 28th. If I had just like one more day of PTO. I'd do it, but yeah. Not going to make Electric Callboy this time. That sucks. But what do you do?
What do you do? Terror is coming. The Amity Affliction, Blackfail Brides, Bush, Wage War.
Oh, Pussifer. That's coming up like really fast. What day of the week is that on? May 5th.
Oof. Why does that have to be coming up so fast? That sucks. That's a Tuesday.
That does not work very good. Alright, now I'm getting sad. Time to close out the concert calendar. It's okay. I shouldn't complain. Go into a like massive show in two days. So I need to settle down.
I can't hit them all. Well, I just stumbled across an article here about a circus troop duo who has been accused of burying 11 tons of trees at historic ruins in Japan. 11 tons. Trees are pretty heavy, so I don't know exactly how many trees that is. But yeah, being charged with damaging archaeological remains by burying felled trees at the Ikagami Sone Ruins. Isn't there an easier way to get rid of trees? There's got to be somebody in Japan who enjoys a nice fire.
You chop down a tree around here, get on Facebook Marketplace and post, hey, free wood. Yeah, somebody's going to come get it. Burying them? Yeah, 11 metric tons in multiple locations. And, you know, I mean, it's a pretty serious charge. It sounds like, you know, damaging historical ruins. Getting that kind of trouble. I couldn't just like dump them on the side of the road somewhere.
It's not the best way to deal with it, but it just sounds like so much work. It's a circus troop. I was speaking to the circus, I just watched a video where a tiger leapt into the crowd during a circus show in Russia.
Didn't attack anybody. Luckily the crowd was as I would be. Absolutely terrified. This is a giant cat. Animals are getting fed up with people. I don't think this was the same circus troop though. Not the tree-burying group.
What else we got here? Another reason to stay out of natural waters. Tell you all the time, don't do it, don't go in that natural water.
Flash-eating bacteria found in Long Island waters leave victims with a 20% chance of dying in 48 hours. Why do I have an alarm going off? Oh yeah, it's Thursday. Lots of stuff that's gotta be done. Too much stuff to be done.
Sorry, I'll settle down. Back to the flash-eating bacteria. Yeah, 20% chance of dying in 48 hours.
Just by jumping on in. And we've got flash-eating bacteria in waters around here as well, so be cautious. What's up peaches? Nothing much, what's happening? Trying to find crap to talk about.
Typical Thursday morning. Just talking about reasons to avoid natural waters, animals attacking people, and circus troops burying trees. There you go peaches. That's what's going on in the world today.
Speaker 3: Did you see the story about the one guy that was buying those expensive Lego sets in Irvine? And then replacing them with pasta? Yes. Imagine being that guy who's all excited and you just spent all your money on a Lego set.
Speaker 1: You know, you shake the box, probably sounds like Legos. Pretty good scam, except you can't do it more than once.
Speaker 3: Well, you got it away with it 70 times. No, 69 times. 69 times. Nice. And then you got to 70, then you got busted.
Speaker 1: Now did he go to different locations each time that he did this?
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was Target, Walmart, Lego Store.
Speaker 1: OK, I was going to say, if you keep going back, you know, you're an idiot. You're going to get caught. So, but people are dumb. Wouldn't surprise me. Anyway, it's after eight everybody. Make sure you're listening this hour. Why? I don't know. But you should. What do you want?
Speaker 4: For you to leave. I'm gonna pack up your. Desk change. Don't do that. I knew your access to the door.
Speaker 1: I need this job.
Speaker 2: I need money. I need this job, man. So I can fill the public in on important factoids like what you were just telling me about
Speaker 4: the girl for stink more than dude for that's right.
Speaker 1: Girl for stink more than do farts. What was that line? Let me find that line again. Dating back to there have been subjects of scientific studies and experiments dating back to at least 1816. Focused on who's the stinkier 200 years of study and who has the smelliest farts.
Speaker 4: Men tend to have passed. They pass a higher volume of gas than women do. But you girls are stinky girls.
Speaker 1: OK, so we fart a lot. Yeah. But, you know, it's a isn't there a saying, you know, that goes along with the the smell. I don't know.
Speaker 2: I don't know what I'm looking for. It's like there was some kind of phrase that was dying to, you know, just pop out of my head. But fail.
Speaker 4: Big fat fail in the study. The judge.
Speaker 1: What did they do? Sniff butts. Apparently they didn't know they were smelling human farts. They were just told to rate the offensiveness of the smell from a zero to eight. Being very offensive. Why a scale of zero to eight? I don't know. Why not?
Speaker 4: It was, you know, one to ten or zero to 17. Some some.
Speaker 1: Now, how did they how did they store the farts? I'm trying to find that out. Was it people farting in jars? That old gag? Farting in jars. Seal it up or maybe somebody's vehicle. Just fart in there and shut the door real fast. All right.
Speaker 4: The results showed the words used to describe the smells were rotten eggs, decomposing vegetables and sweat.
Speaker 1: Decomposing vegetables. Well, it sounds like a jade fart.
Speaker 4: It doesn't say how they were collected.
Speaker 1: I want to know details. This is important. Sign didn't matter.
Speaker 4: But girl farts had a higher concentration of hydrogen sulfide with a crater order intensity. Then that of men.
Speaker 1: Maybe girls just eat more eggs. Oh, that's why you get that rotten egg fart smell. Maybe it's a dietary thing. Because whatever you eat, man, J's eight. That's the top tier fart, jade farts. Well, you do have a girl's name, so.
Speaker 4: Humans fart up to 23 times a day. That's a week at the time. 23 times an hour.
Speaker 1: Let's go. That's right. You know, until you get older, though. Then you're like, I don't know if I want to risk it.
Speaker 4: There's a fun little article on the New York Post.
Speaker 1: Why can't there be more news articles like that? All the crap I'm finding is just political garbage. Now I want more fart news.
Speaker 4: Here's one of the lines. The next time you catch a whiff of your wife's wind, take comfort. That stink could be a sign that she's less likely to develop Alzheimer's.
Speaker 1: Oh, so she has really stinky farts.
Speaker 4: You don't have to worry about that. That's good to know. Oh, this this dude has my name. Dr. Michael Levitt, known as the King of Farts. The King of Farts.
Speaker 1: What a title to have. What does your dad do?
Speaker 4: He's the king. He's the king of what? Farts.
Speaker 1: Well, you know, see, like I said, Jade, you can't empty out my office. We need to get this important information out to the community. All right. We've we've learned a lot and this will go into issues reporting. That's right. Yeah. We're doing public good.
Speaker 4: I'm trying to find out how they stored these and that's what I want to know.
Speaker 1: Because, you know, if you just fart in a room, I mean, you're you got to deal with the sniffing it really fast. There's got to be a way that did they use like a big bag? You know, I'm trying to find out. Man, I'm trying to find out.
New York Post. We know what answers. What the important answers we want to know how to store farts. Forget what's in the box.
Raith, the smell of this bag from one to eight. When tickets. Oh, all right. Well, thank you for bringing that article in. That's I think the best thing that's been on the show all day. You're welcome. Thank you, buddy. Welcome to the show. Peaches. Yeah. What's up, homie?
Speaker 3: When you were away, I was on the phone with the doctor and the insurance people. And I was talking about specific things. And so we got winded up on a conference call with the three of us, the front desk person, the doctor's office, the insurance lady and me.
OK. I thought the insurance lady was real. I could tell I actually was able to tell right away that she was AI. Like I thought she was real. And then as soon as she started talking, I was like, yeah, this is not a real person. She had that weird tone and she came off as rude too.
It was quite weird. A rude AI. Because like she's like, well, I'm going to put you into a conference call. Let's call the doctor. And so we call the doctor and the front desk lady picks up the phone. And then she goes, she doesn't say anything. So I go, hi, this is Brendan. And all of a sudden, the lady starts talking and I must be on a delay on her phone because after she starts talking, she just automatically stops and goes, I'm talking, Brendan.
Speaker 1: I yelled at you. I'm talking. Don't barrel over the top of me. That's awesome. Oh, yeah. I've gotten hit with a few AI, you know, things when I've had to make some phone calls recently and I just start yelling agent, agent, agent.
Speaker 3: You should start cussing them out. See what they say.
Speaker 1: You never know. They they might record it or something.
Speaker 3: What if the model is like cussing you right back and then you say, hey, like this employee was foul-mouthed fire them immediately.
Speaker 1: You cheap skates. They didn't have somebody to do this job.
Speaker 3: There was there was a post. I think I saw yesterday about how this company started doing AI layoffs because it was costing them too much money to keep them going. So they got rid of the AI and brought in these mid-level like people. So OK, well, AI layoff.
Speaker 1: Well, good. That about time for a riff, a reduction in force to the AI, you know, soon to be overlords. That's right. Get rid of them. All right. Well, that's a good sign for people if AI is too expensive and it's more affordable to just pay a human worker. That might be what saves a lot of jobs.
Speaker 3: Well, that also I feel like maybe like the usage of AI with the impacting the environment, these companies are going to be guilted into getting rid of that.
Speaker 1: Mm hmm. Yeah, there's there's a lot of talk about data centers and things like that right now.
Speaker 3: People are getting pretty upset about this. Is it the new trendy term to say like, I don't know what a data center is, but I see everyone else complaining about it. So I'm going to complain about it too.
Speaker 1: Yeah, because they use a lot of water, I guess. And as you probably have read, water conditions not very good in the western part of the country right now.
Speaker 3: I think the more you post about it, the more water just shows up. You know that flood my Facebook feed.
Speaker 1: No pun intended. You know, yep. Should be a real fun fire season this year. Yeah, I can't wait with the entire West basically in a drought. That's fantastic.
Speaker 3: That was a trendy word for a long time too.
Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Yeah. And I was reading something about it being one of the worst droughts we've had in a long time.
Speaker 3: They've said that for like eight years. Well, magically, California, they got their water back.
Speaker 1: I would, yeah, I would not be booking a trip to, I don't know, Lake Powell or anything like that anytime soon. Probably not going to be very fun, you know, with the dwindling water level. So I did read they were going to release water from like somewhere in Wyoming to send down there. I don't know. Everybody's fighting over water right now.
Speaker 3: Somebody had a very stupid take in the comment section that was laughing at. He was talking about how like the 70 something percent of the world is water. Why don't we use that? It's like, well, you realize it's all salt, right? It would cost, I think it would cost a lot of money to.
Speaker 1: Yeah, they have those desalination plants where they can, you know, take the salt out of the water, but it is very expensive. Yeah. You know, it's not just that simple, but people don't understand that science very much. You know, so. Well, people, that's the end of the program for today. Peaches and I will be back at noon for the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem. And I need to go through my checklist of crap. I got to get done. My back hurts.
Speaker 3: Beaches don't fall in a hot tub. It's a bad move. That's what I need to make your song for you. Speaking of AI.
Speaker 1: Victor failed down in a hot tub. Her back. He's an idiot. All right. We'll leave you with a new one from the pretty reckless piece out, people. Thank you again for tuning in to the Victor Wilt show. This program is a production of Riverbend Media Group. To contact the show or for more information, hit us up at Riverbendmediagroup.com.
