#0365 - Hiking In Search Of Norovirus - 05/26/2026

Hey, what's happening? What's up, people? It's Tuesday.

Monday on a Tuesday. Fantastic. I hope you had a good three-day weekend. Mine pretty much just blew by. It went fine. I had one main goal and though challenging, I accomplished it. All the other stuff I wanted to get done.

Oh well. I've got the weekday afternoons, I guess. But overall, I suppose it was a pretty good weekend. Just wish I, like many other people around here, would have taken today off as well. But I do hope you had a great extended holiday weekend.

I hope it went fantastic. Let's take a look at the weather here. See what we're looking at for the week. Pretty toasty yesterday. Not too bad. Today, rainy. Rainy this morning, looking at highs of about 69. And then we're going to start cooking again tomorrow. But yeah, I could have some thunderstorms today. So make sure to shut some windows or whatever. Whatever you need to do to prepare yourself. Aside from that, I'm going to get digging into some content so we can find for the show today. Hopefully it's a good one.

Already prepared for the end of the day. It's a I got this since yesterday. I felt like someone is stabbing an ice pick into the side of my head. And like ibuprofen helps it a little bit, but it it's bad.

It's not fun. So I'm going to go grab some coffee and ibuprofen and we'll see what that does. Wish me luck. And hopefully, you know, I'll also return with some good fun content to brighten up your morning.

We'll see. Got to be something that happened over the weekend. We got a variety of giveaways going on this week. You should take part in them and hopefully win some fantastic prizes. Well, what kind of stuff are we giving away? Let's dive in and find out. So I'm trying to get a stupid button to work here and nothing's cooperating with me.

Been one of those mornings. All right, we'll start with hot grill summer teamed up with the gun shop in Idaho Falls and we are giving away a Camp Chef DLX pellet grill playing a little game called the prices charred. All you got to do is be a caller number. Let's see. I guess peaches didn't pick specific caller numbers. So we'll pick them as we play and you're going to go head to head with another listener. Guess the price of a barbecue item without going over and you'll score five extra entries into the grand prize drawing. If you want to get an entry anytime, fire up any of our apps, the K-Bear, Cannonball or Alt 101 apps and you'll get entered to win that sweet Camp Chef DLX pellet grill from the gun shop. Then on their customer appreciation day on Saturday, May 30th, this Saturday, we're going to draw the winner live on location. So yeah, make it a hot grill summer.

Get that sad excuse for a grill upgraded for free if you're lucky with the gun shop and K-Bear. And then also we are giving away Story of the Year in Silverstein tickets this week. They're going to be in the complex on Thursday, July 23rd. And we're going to be playing a little game called Emo or Faco. If you hear us give you the cue to call, be caller 15. We're going to hit you with three band names. One's a real emo band.

The other two we just made up. Pick the real one and you're going to see Story of the Year in Silverstein live at the complex in Salt Lake free on us. Plus, every winner is getting entered into a grand prize drawing for a meet and greet with one of the bands. So some pretty cool giveaways going on this week.

Make sure to do your part and take part so you can hopefully win. Seriously, can't believe the weekend's already over. I mean, it was fine. It's just amazing how quickly things go by so annoying. All right, what else is annoying? Socially unacceptable things that people do?

Sure. Maybe you do these things and you didn't realize. Oh, people don't like that. All right, something that became socially unacceptable way faster than anyone expected.

All right, we know how good the internet is. Let's see how many these things are actually socially unacceptable. Hmm. All right, here we go. Ringtones.

All right, I, I don't know if they are. I mean, it's weird when you hear a phone ring. And I know I only turn my phone ringer on. Like if I know I'm going to need a phone call, say if I'm, you know, laying in bed watching TV and there's a potential that there's a phone call I'm going to need to answer, that buzzing is not going to wake me up. No, I sleep pretty heavy.

I can sleep through a lot of racket. So got to make sure the ringer's up. But I don't know if ringers or ringtones are socially unacceptable. Maybe if you had a really offensive song as your ringtone or something, but yeah, again, people have stopped using them. Used to be everybody look, look, I got you know, black Sabbath for my ringtone, pretty metal. I'm pretty cool. Nobody cares now. Maybe like, dude, why is your song playing music?

Turn it off. Maybe it has become socially unacceptable. Let's see. This person says, my dad used to let me sit on his lap and steer the car on back roads. Told my coworkers this like three years ago and they looked at me like I confessed to murder. Yeah, I remember my parents let me sit in their lap and drive, you know, like steer the vehicle and when we're out camping. I bet that still goes on, especially now with the new Idaho laws that will be taking place at the beginning of July, where parents are now required to teach their kids to drive. I think this is a terrible idea. I think that most people don't know the law. I do traffic school powered by the advocates every Friday, 845 a.m. with Lieutenant Crane of the Idaho State Police. We've been doing it for 10 years. All right.

I read the posts on Facebook. The majority of people don't know the law very well. I don't think we should have parents teaching their kids everything they need to know about driving.

Driver's Ed was just fine, but that's just me. Let's see. What are other things that became socially unacceptable? Crazy fast. Cigarettes. Now, I have cigarettes been socially acceptable in the last, I don't know, 30 years? Back when I was a kid, people would smoke everywhere, like everywhere. But I see, I seem to still remember, even as more places have become non smoking and such, even during all those years, you know, you see somebody smoking somewhere, there's always somebody going, I don't, I don't think it's been socially acceptable for a long time, long time. Let's see, calling people on the phone.

I don't think it's socially unacceptable. Yeah, it can be annoying. You know, if it's just something you could text, just text it. But, you know, sometimes you got to call people and I'm, I don't know, I think I just talk too much. So when it gets to the point that I'm done with work for the day, somebody calls my phone wants to chat for like an hour, I'm like, listen, all I do is talk. Can you just text me, please? I mean, I'll even get people to text me, like, can you text me important, like family matters? I don't want to talk about this on the phone.

All right, just, just give me the info, okay? We'll be fine. Let's see here. Tide turned pretty quickly about posting your kids online. Yeah. I mean, posting pictures of your family. If you just run a personal Facebook account, you're not, you know, some type of content creator, probably fine. But those people who, you know, make millions off of making content with their kids, I just think that's weird.

And they always seem to end up in some kind of a true crime story. Yeah. All right. Well, anyway, I'm going to take a quick break. I got to chug more coffee. I'm just trying to motivate myself through this day.

Hopefully the coffee cures the stabbing ice pick in the head and grouchiness. Yeah. Hey, it's a Monday on a Tuesday. Everybody cut me some slack. Okay.

If you were thinking about taking a trip to the Pacific Crest Trail and hiking away, uh, might want to avoid a certain section in California where a number of people have picked up Norovirus. Yeah. Not only on cruise ships anymore. Apparently you can't even go out in the woods.

People got to be picking this up. What it like, outhouses, things like that. Cause I mean, when you're outside, I mean, what's it going to stick to aside from, yeah, as one of those filthy outhouses that are just out in the middle of the woods. Uh, nothing worse than being stuck out on some trail, living in a tent, and, uh, you got it coming at all ends. Oh, geez. I've had Norovirus.

I've talked about it many times. I'm being stuck at my own home with Norovirus was one of the most horrible things I've ever been through. So trying to imagine being stuck in the middle of the woods, living in a tent, and having to walk your way out. Why is, oh sure. Now, now my alarm wants to go off, huh? Okay. All right. I'll remember to take that med. The next two hours of the show might get interesting, people.

If I get a little bit dozy, it might be nap time on this program. All right. Uh, let's see.

Yeah. If you're going to hike, don't share any water bottles. Wash your hands.

Okay. Wash your hands. Norovirus can survive for weeks on surfaces and objects.

So that dirty outhouse door packs some hand sanitizer. Groty. All right.

What else do we have here? Woman dies after umbrella hits her at restaurant. All right. Nobody wants to go in some stupid way.

Right. You're just out to eat like, all right. You know, we're heading into a holiday weekend. Let's go. Let's go get ourselves a nice lunch. Next thing you know, strong wind picks up an umbrella from another table, smashes you in the head, and then you're just, you're done.

RIP to this woman in South Carolina. Oh, all right. At least I've just got a headache today.

All right. I can handle the feeling of ice pit going into the side of my head. At least I'm alive for now.

All right. What else do we got here? Guy was running from the cops in Everett, Washington, and he decided to jump into a chimney. Luckily, it's the time of year where, you know, people aren't burning fires, but yeah, most people, if you jump into a chimney, you're not going to get out.

Okay. So yeah, they had to like rip the mantle apart and basically rip the chimney out of the wall or the fireplace out, but they got the guy and, oh, the claustrophobia. He was stuck in there for, I guess, about a half hour. Not terrible, but makes me uncomfortable. All right. We made it to eight o'clock, everybody. We'll get through this day somehow. All right. I'll try to be more optimistic. Sorry.

Like I said, ice pick in the side of the head and I've got a little bit of case of the grouchies, but they're clearing up. It'd be better when three o'clock rolls around. What's happening? It's Victor Wilt just after eight o'clock on what feels like a Monday morning.

Hope it goes by quick for you and again, hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend. Not a lot to report for mine. I was trying to think back. I'm like, did I even watch like a full movie or do anything? I mean, I know what I did all weekend.

All right. I mean, I got some things done, not as much as I would have liked, but there were some errands completed, some missing that, but I'm like, what did I do while I was at home? Did I watch anything good? I guess nothing's standing out. Watched an episode of fallout.

That's about all that stands out. A bunch of garbage on YouTube. Oh, I did watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood again. You know, it's a pretty decent movie. It's not Tarantino's like best, but it's still good. I love the twist ending in it. It takes you by surprise.

Pretty brutal. You know, good cast. So, okay, I did do that, but I just really could have used one more day off. And I know I say that every Monday, even if it's a Monday on a Tuesday, but yeah, hopefully throughout the week, can accomplish some things and then maybe, maybe actually get away with watching something.

Got to be something good out there that I want to check out. All right. Let's see here.

I got to do some digging people. Oh, we got peaches in the house. Maybe he, maybe he did something fun this weekend. What'd you do peaches? I swam a lot. You swam a lot.

Yeah. Where'd you go swimming? My friend Bryson and his girlfriend, Charlie, just moved into a new apartment complex and their pools are really nice. So very nice. Spent most of that in the house of grilled. Did some grilling. Yeah.

All right. What'd you cook? Burgers. Cook some burgers. Very nice.

Very nice. I don't think I cooked anything all weekend. I think it was all door dash or go pick up some food. I have now become that guy that's not having any bread at all or anything like that. Peaches, you know, pretty soon.

Gonna be looking like Jade Davis except a little bit taller. I don't eat anymore. I don't do anything.

I just swim. There's no sugar, no soda, no bread, no nothing. It's just protein and that's it.

Some healthy fats, some carbs there. All right. Well, good luck on your journey. It's been pretty good so far. All right.

Yeah. One of these days, once I get it just all together, then I'll go get the jab like you and everybody else. I have some extra syringes if you want to use it. All right.

We're talking about the jab that'll make you less fat, everybody. Okay. Settle down. It's funny how everybody's okay with that jab.

I've made that joke before. Come on. Some brand new mysterious, you know, just makes you lose weight. But it's been around since like the 80s. That's the thing too. Yeah.

But I don't think a lot of testing has been done on it as a quick weight loss drug. Right. You know, but sure, stick me right in the guts and fine with it. Anything else?

So no, no, I don't want mysterious substances entering my body. Yeah. Becca did call to remind me we did listen or watch one other thing this weekend. And that was train wreck astro world about the astro world music festival. Yeah.

I don't know if I recommend watching that when you're feeling a little bit claustrophobic. Really sad story. I recall when this happened, I didn't realize so many people died and that nobody ever had to take any responsibility for it.

Pretty ridiculous. Those train wreck documentaries on Netflix, they're pretty good. They're pretty good. There's the one about the poop crews. There's the one about Woodstock. There's a bunch of them. There's a bunch of them. And then I know Becca watched that the new documentary on Netflix called, I think got around to it. I know the basic story, but I heard it's pretty crazy. And I think I was watching.

I don't know. I had kind of a weird weekend. I did my best to try to get rest, but I was really anxious all weekend.

So I couldn't sleep when I wanted to sleep, even though I was really tired. So I was watching stuff, but it just doesn't stick out what it was. There was another one I was watching about a couple of what's the name for these guys? What's the name of someone who runs a mortuary, an undertaker? I don't know, some kind of murder, you know, documentary involving a bunch of undertakers in some small Colorado town, but I don't know, I think I watched an episode and then maybe I did fall asleep.

I don't know. Weekend, a little bit of a blur, but it was fine. I did a very good job at behaving myself all weekend. I just didn't accomplish anything and should have gone to bed about four hours earlier last night, but that's fine.

What do you do? You're on to Tuesday and you just get it done. Could be much worse. I've had, I've certainly had worse mornings. You in the market for a job? You know, summer's basically here.

Maybe you were looking to change it up a bit, try something new. Get over to higherestidaho.com, maybe check out our job of the week, a quality production specialist for Melaleuca, the wellness company. Ah, they got a lot of great benefits. You know, a steady local company that's been around for a long time and you can find out all about this quality production specialist position by visiting higherestidaho.com. Now there are tons of other jobs available there as well. If you're a local employer and you're looking for people to work for you, put your job listings up. It's fully revamped, looking great.

And if you're in the market for a job or employees, it's the place to go, higherestidaho.com. Man, it feels like Monday. I mean, for a lot of us it technically is, well, not technically. You know what I'm saying. Stupid.

Stupid. Monday's on a Tuesday. Oh well, we're making it through.

Holy cow. Yeah, we are making it through. It's kind of going by quick.

Hopefully after the show it will as well. All right. I was just filling out a survey when I should be working. It was a survey about Resident Evil Requiem.

I guess Capcom asked them for people's opinions on the game. And I just want to get to the point where they're like, is there anything we could do better? Put it in VR. That's what you could do.

Put it in VR. Then maybe I'd be motivated to sit down and play some video games. Yesterday, throughout the morning, I was like all bored and I was trying to figure out something to do. I wanted to play Resident Evil, but I just could not get motivated to do it. So I sat in my bed and watched YouTube. Well, nothing stuck out, so I didn't watch anything that great.

Should have sat down and played video games, but whatever. I don't know. Just filling out surveys.

I never get you anywhere. Peach has said he filled out a survey recently and got a hundred something odd bucks for doing so. Like, can somebody throw some money at me?

That's what I could use. I don't even want to fire up my phone and check out them credit card statements. I'm going to have to get a part-time job.

Need to fix my computer at home. Start making some money. Slinging some Victor Wilt merch. One of these days, one of these days I'll get around to it. Today I ain't going to do it.

No. Not in the mood. Not in the mood to do nothing. If I can accomplish some laundry, I'll be doing good.

Nothing super productive. Probably need a model on. Okay. Sorry. I'm just beating myself up over tasks not completed. Maybe I need even more coffee. I don't know. I'm tired.

As to be expected after a three-day weekend. Well, I'm going to finish filling out this survey so those of us who are into Resident Evil, maybe we can get some Resident Evil VR with enough complaints to Capcom. Highly doubt it. So, Peach and I were talking about Grand Theft Auto 6. You know, it should be a major leap forward in gaming. What about other leaps in technology? Maybe something that looked futuristic at launch and then it turned out to be meh.

Became irrelevant fast. Hopefully GTA 6. Not one of those situations. But there have been many of these type of things that have popped up over the years like Google Glass. You remember the Google Glasses? Yeah. What happened to those?

Bye-bye. Now, there are some type of what? Metaglasses now that people seem to be using. I don't like that. I don't want somebody to be filming me with their glasses and I'm unaware. At least if somebody has their phone out, you're aware when they're pointing it at you. It's like, stop looking at me.

Leave me alone. Google Glass. Yeah. Hope nobody invested in that.

What else do we got here? 3D TV. Now, people either loved or hated 3D TVs. I thought 3D TV was great.

I don't think they make them anymore, but I had one at one point and it was fun. We'd sit around and watch Fire Ants 3D. Yeah, you'd think that sounds like a boring documentary. Until you're watching it in 3D with a great musical soundtrack. Fire Ants 3D is awesome. Yeah, I could go for another 3D TV. Wonder if anybody's slinging one on Marketplace.

No, I don't have any money. I need to do some catching up. So what I need to do, again, meant to pay some bills on Friday. And now some days you just can't bring yourself to look at your phone. Look at that bank account and then look at them bills.

No 3D TVs in the future. But I did buy myself a bicycle. Got myself a used bicycle and I wrote it around the neighborhood. That's a little bit of exercise.

That was somewhat positive. Tell you what, though, you don't ride a bike for a long time. You know how they say, like, you never forget. How to ride a bike.

Well, maybe you don't forget. But it doesn't mean you're going to be able to jump back on and just ride as smoothly as you did back in the day. Filling like just a wobbly little toddler or something driving a bike like an idiot.

Let's see here. Segway. Now the Segway, I think, got a bad rap because it didn't the owner of the Segway or the creator drive one off a cliff.

I think Segway could have been useful for some people, but I don't know if they marketed them right. Let's see here. What else do we have?

Items that looked futuristic at launch, but then we're like, meh. Mini disk. Yeah. No. I remember the mini disk player. Those certainly went nowhere.

Let's see. Stand alone and in car GPS. Those lasted a long time. And I don't think that they would have gone obsolete if people didn't have GPS on their phone. Yeah. I mean, it looked futuristic at the time was and again, I don't think they went obsolete.

People are still using in car GPS systems. Let's see here. The blackboard. Do they not have those in school anymore? That's probably fine. It couldn't have been good, you know, cleaning that dust out of the chockerazers. Yeah. Smacking them together, kicking up a bunch of dust.

Doesn't seem like it's good for your lungs. Virtual boy. Yeah, that looked like super few futuristic when it came out, but universally hated. I never even tried one of those. It was Nintendo's like really old school VR system. Nothing like we got nowadays.

Let's see here. Pony Express. Oh, the actual Pony Express back in the day. OK. Yeah, I was going to say Pony Express car wash. They're like at the the forefront of futuristic car wash technology.

These guys were talking about delivering mail. Laser disk. Yeah, I think I knew one person who had one of those Apple vision. Kind of the same as the Nintendo, you know, virtual boy Apple vision. The world's most expensive VR glasses that I didn't even know anybody you had any of those. Hmm.

Digital cameras with floppy drives. That sounds. Bulkie. All right, I don't have a Costco account. All right. I just don't have the need to buy that much stuff at once. I mean, they have some unique items. You can't get anywhere else, but I think that's about the only benefits Costco in my personal opinion. I know some people love Costco. They might as well consider Costco their church, but that's not me.

I just stumbled across while Peach has sent it to me. Radio article is your nearby Costco more local than your radio station. Now, I've been to a number of Costco's and.

I don't know. Does anything about Costco when you walk in just scream local? What do they got? Idaho t-shirts?

I don't know. It's been a while since I've been in one. Peach, as I was just talking about this article, you sent me about Costco. And you know, just like Costco, we also have AT &T employees just bar going after people in the lobby. You didn't know about that? No. Yeah, we have the most. Right. You've been to the Costco, right? We're like, they have the cell phone provider people running up to you, asking about your phone plan and all of that.

Very local, very local treatment. No, I mentioned, you know, I don't have a Costco membership. Neither do I. Haven't bought one for a long time. What was it like 75 bucks a year, 50 bucks a year?

The executive membership is like 160. What does that get you? What's the difference? I don't know.

Well, let's look up. I mean, I'm not trying to give Costco a bunch of plugs here, but I'm just trying to figure out how Costco is hyper local. Like, do they just sell Idaho shot glasses? Like, what do they have? They did sell an Idaho cutting board at one point.

That's what I have on my wall in my bedroom. OK, well, Idaho cities on it. Oh, you think they're selling that of the California Idaho?

I don't think so. At a California Idaho, the California Costco. Got you in there. I'm sorry.

There's so many Californians here. It's pretty much the same thing. Am I right? Yeah, but it's absolutely right.

Let's see here. Executive level is 130 a year, regular level 65. And I guess if you get the executive, you get discounts on Costco travel, executive only service benefits, whatever that means. A $10 monthly credit on same day delivery, early shopping hours and an annual two percent reward.

And here I thought I was cool getting a Walmart plus for a dollar for the whole month. Whoa. Yeah.

Wow. Getting my stuff delivered because I don't have time to go through Walmart and peruse the aisles and put myself among the peasants. Well, I'll tell you, someone who went grocery shopping over the weekend, all grocery stores suck.

Oh, hate grocery shopping. I used to like it because it used to be my escape. You know, I put the headphones in, get away for a little bit.

I don't know what happened now, but grocery shopping now. I'm just like, get me out of here. I can't take it. Can't take no matter what store it is. Winco, could you please build a store on the other side of town? Why? You know, but why do you want that so badly? We live right by the.

I know. So that some of the people who go there will go to the other one. You know, they're driving all the way across town to get the, you know, cheap prices, go to the one on, build one on the West side. There was somebody in the life in Idaho Falls group last night that was like, is there any place that has cheap groceries? And I'm like, you guys killed the one thing, the one place that did. And that was grocery outlet.

Yeah. I mean, Winco is the cheapest, but I hate to break it to everybody. There are not cheap groceries anywhere. OK, there is nothing cheap in there.

Or if you run fast enough. OK, yes. You need to become a shoplifter. You want to get cheap groceries?

How fast can you run with a grocery cart full of food? They don't know that I know this hack. Put them up.

There you go. Rob them for groceries. You walk up to the cash register. Give me all the food in the basket. No, you don't want the money in the register. No, I just want the food in the basket. It's worth more than all the money in the register. I need my blueberries for my yogurt.

Dang it. Yeah, I would imagine one cart of groceries probably has more value than the average till has in cash. Because nobody uses cash anymore. That would be a great promotion, I feel like. If we could work a way to where we say, hey, fill up the cart and run out the grocery store in the first person to do so wins the entire cart of groceries. Do we get to hire like Lieutenant Crane to work as a store security and tackle them down? You know, because you got to have some obstacles.

The average store security might not be the same as a train cop. What? The door at Winco leaving that one?

It's slow. So like if somebody's running out of the car. Just slam right in there. I bet that's why this the door opens a little bit slowly. So if somebody is trying to book it out with some food, they get to it and slam into it. I feel like Darth Vader every time I walk out that door because I'm like standing right behind it all menacingly, like, come on, open.

I use the force to do so. Oh, stupid groceries. That's OK, peaches.

The prices are coming down on day one. So OK. I know that might have been about. Five hundred days ago, but that's still, you know, some people use different math, OK? The average person's one could be the other person's five hundred.

I want my I want the gas prices to be like my GPA, not my sisters. OK. All right, I'm pretty stoked this day is moving by at a decent pace. Grouchy Mondays. It's all right. We'll survive it. Then we just got to survive the week, but at least it's Tuesday.

And we've talked a little bit about like getting out of town and such throughout the program. If you're looking for a new rig, well, it's not new. But if you're a breaking bad fan, I just saw on Facebook Market, somebody in Incom is selling a nineteen eighty six Fleetwood Bounder and that is the exact model of RV that was used in Breaking Bad. So if you're a breaking bad fan and you're, I don't know, bored and into hobbies, you could totally redo that and turn it into a mobile meth lab. No, I'm just kidding.

Can you imagine? You're like, no, man, no, Lieutenant Crane. This isn't a real meth lab. This is just my, you know, project. To, you know, make a replica of the RV used in Breaking Bad, man.

Just ignore all the vials and chemicals and things like that. Nah, man, it's my breaking bad RV. Two grand, two grand.

If it was if it was cheap, just to make my neighbors crazy, I would buy this just to park it in my driveway. Or, you know, there could be a day when I'm like, I can't take it anymore. I'm going to go sleep outside. I've had it with you, cats.

I don't know. Maybe I could move the cats into it since they're making me nuts. Can't get my house clean. We're living in the RV until the house is clean. I've had it.

Yeah, 2G's listed yesterday in Income 1986, Fleetwood Bounder, for you breaking bad fans. Or if you want to donate it to my driveway and make my neighbors crazy, I'd put it there, put the fake bullet holes in the door. Sure, might as well, right? Got to have some kind of hobby. It's not like I'm accomplishing anything else. Anyway, I'm going to do some tedious, boring crap and then Peaches and I'll be back at noon for the noon hour of madness and mayhem. I appreciate your company today, as always. And I hope Tuesday and the rest of the week goes by fast. I am ready for the weekend. Is there any kind of crap I'm supposed to do this weekend? It seems like it. And it's currently not coming to mind.

But I'm like, what crap do I have to do this weekend? Oh, well, I'm out. Thank you again for tuning in to the Victor Wilt Show, this program is a production of Riverbend Media Group. To contact the show or for more information, hit us up at RiverbendMediaGroup.com.
