#0419 - I Went To A Toy Store And Nearly Declared War On A Family Learning Math

Speaker 1: Morning people and welcome to Friday How to How to How to Hope you're having a good morning. Hope you got some decent sleep. If you had to guess, what do you think my answer is gonna be when it comes to did I get enough sleep? Of course not. That's alright, though. It's Friday. Got the three-day weekend ahead. And my plans to get uh a lot of rest this weekend. You know, yesterday, very busy day around here. Had the folks from the uh monster truck tour stop by.

They're gonna be at Sandy Downs tomorrow. Then we went to the fair food judging, ate a bunch of good food, then we rushed back here, and it seemed like I was rushing here and rushing there. And today, all I've gotta do is uh rush home and uh buckle in.

Yeah. And I'm gonna do my best to go all weekend and all time moving forward after that, no booze. And uh, you know, anybody who's tried to get off the sauce, you've heard me talk about it before. You know, it's it's a struggle, but uh I'm looking forward to it this time. Yeah, I'm excited to get out of here, hide in my room, hunker down, watch some TV, take some naps, and uh hopefully roll in on Tuesday after the holiday weekend, feeling the best I've felt after a three-day weekend ever. That's my plan. So I'm putting my mind to it, and I'm gonna do it. I'm just gonna do it. So wish me luck on that. Ugh.

It's gotta get through this morning. Because once I get home, uh I can just lock myself down, lay in bed, I'm good to go. So, anyway, that's my my weekend plans, my big Labor Day weekend plans.

Hide. So I hope you've got some fun plans. Whatever you do, please be safe. Lots of people traveling this weekend, lots of people getting out camping and stuff like that. You know, make sure to be aware of others, keep an eye out for people on motorcycles and things like that. Uh Labor Day weekend can be, you know, fairly dangerous.

So please be careful, cautious. I want all you rolling back in to listen to the show on Tuesday, but I hope you have fun. Alright, I am going to find crap to talk with you about.

That's what I'm gonna get up to right now. So, uh yeah. Let's go. Let's do it. Alright, so Peach has sent me an email. I forgot that I said, sure, I'll do it. And what is that?

Joining the Fantasy Football League. Alright, I am dumb, okay. I am really dumb. So I think it was last year, or maybe it was earlier. Well, yes, it was earlier this year because it was during March Madness.

You know, We did this just for fun. Uh tournament, March Madness bracket thing. And I just basically went down the list once they explained to me how the numbers work, and I just picked the the strongest team based on the numbers.

I have no knowledge, no inner, you know, secrets on anything about any of those teams. So it was just a guessing game, and I almost ended up winning the whole thing. It was really close, which is funny because I again knew nothing about a single team or player in all of college basketball. So Peach is, you know, sends out this email and like, who wants to join fantasy football?

And I thought he was talking about that, March Madness, because I'm dumb. So I said, yeah, I'll sign up. So I get an email this morning, and it's like, all right, tomorrow's drafting day. You know, make sure to get your account set up here, blah blah blah. And I don't know how to set up a a draft. I don't know what to do.

And I don't got the time to be sitting around Googling this. And Peaches is all, well, just have, you know, Justin or me or Josh help out. Far as I know, there ain't a Justin Josh or Peaches in sight today. I think they're all ready to go for the holiday weekend already. I don't know who's gonna be at work today, actually.

I think it's gonna be pretty quiet around here, which is fine. That'll allow me the time to get things done that I need to get done. But I don't know what I'm gonna do with this fantasy football thing, and then by tomorrow, it's like, am I gonna remember to get get all signed up?

No. It's gonna be Saturday. Yeah, I'll be sitting around hopefully sleeping in real good.

Oh yeah. Anyway, that's my struggle this morning. I did get my account set up, but I I don't know what to do from there. Maybe I can't do anything really till uh tomorrow.

So I don't know. I'd rather be researching like how to use my new camera, and I'd buy that thing and have it even haven't even messed with it. So much I want to do. I'm hoping I'll have some motivation to uh work on the house this weekend as well. But maybe I'll monkey a little bit with fantasy football, but not right now. Too early. Hopefully, this morning goes by fast.

I am ready to be done. I don't know about you people, and it's a little early to be feeling that way. Well, I think we need to cue the outrage this morning.

Speaker 2: Now might be a really good time for you to get angry. That's my secret, Kat. I'm always angry.

Speaker 1: I bet we're gonna start having a lot of these grand theft auto related outrage stories. This one coming direct from Miami, the city um in which GTA 6 basically takes place, the fictionalized version of Miami, anyhow.

Leonida. Well, apparently the Sheriff of Miami is not happy about a plan for promoting uh GTA, teaming up with the city. Yeah, they wanted to do a bunch of stuff in Miami, like you roll into the airport, and you'll have some welcome to Vice City signage, you know, you wrapping the the buses with Vice City branding, you know, just a GTA takeover of the city, since uh Vice City is again based on Miami, and the sheriff's like, we can't promote fictional versions of our community defined by crime and violence, man, a stick in the mud.

Come on. I mean, Florida itself doesn't have the best reputation, all right? This is a video game, it's not real, and I guarantee Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to drive tourism to Miami. Like, the first time I went to LA, it was so cool going to all these locations that I had been to in GTA 5. You know, you cruise down to the Santa Monica Pier, it's like, oh, it feels like I've been here before.

Because I sorta have. And the version of Miami they're making, I mean, it looks amazing. I was playing a tiny bit of GTA 5, the PS5 version last night. I just popped into the online mode for a second, and uh man, it'd been a long time since I played GTA 5. You know I play tons of Red Dead, and we've seen that extended look at GTA 6 that was out on Netflix, and you can also find on YouTube. Um, the the leap in graphics and uh game mechanics and things like that from GTA 5 to Red Dead 2 to what we've seen of GTA 6. So amazing. I know it's gonna make me want to go to Miami.

And you know, this guy's all worried about ads popping up, and we need to consider the message we send. It's not real, it's a video game. The TV show Dexter was based around a serial killer in Miami. It actually looks like his apartment is in uh GTA 6, so maybe they'll have uh some kind of spoof Dexter character in there as well. But you know that for the city, I I would think it's a smart move to team up on an advertising campaign. Cause it's gonna drive tourism. And right now, people don't have a lot of money to spend to do anything. So if you can get some people to come visit Miami, it's not a bad thing. I don't think that people are gonna play GTA and go, all right.

Well, that was fun, but now I really need to get out and do it for real. That's not how it works. And study after study have shown violent video games don't lead to actual violence. Alright.

Studies have shown that they help reduce it. Cause you know, you got this fictionalized uh entertainment world where you're not gonna hurt anybody, and do we have people calling out like Call of Duty or any other violent video game right now? People are gonna just start going nuts over GTA 6. We've already had the outrage against the game for having uh a dating kind of thing, a dating aspect to it, and again, this could just be the internet making stuff up, but supposedly there's all these women out there who are like my man ain't playing that game with his digital girlfriend in that game. It's like it's part of the game.

What do you not let him watch movies where there's a love story or something like that? Settle down. I I don't think people are actually outraged like that, but you never know. Anyway, the only thing I'm outraged about is that it's not uh quitting time at work today. Sorry, I didn't mean to stretch while while talking. I know that makes people tired, but I'm tired. Anyhow, uh come on, November 19th.

I wish today, today would be the perfect day for it to be November 19th. Anyway, GTA 6 coming soon. Get ready for lots more angry angry uh boomers popping up. Alright, if you're listening to the on demand version of this show, you're missing out on what I'm gonna do for the next, I don't know, 25 minutes or so. I am going to play an entire new debut album from a band that I really dig. That band being showing teeth, their new EP dropped today. It's available everywhere you can find music.

It's called a fate worse than loneliness. When I interviewed the band a couple weeks ago, told them, yeah, I'm gonna play the whole thing on the morning show. And thankfully, they sent me the you know, naughty language free version of every song. So we're just gonna kick back and listen to this thing. If you haven't checked it out yet, it's great.

It's great, one of the the best new bands I've heard in a long time. So, let's do this. Showing teeth, a fate worse than loneliness. We're just gonna bust out all seven tracks, and then we'll talk a little bit more about it. Uh, if you're listening on demand once again, after you listen to the show, go listen to this EP everywhere you can find music, or go to showing teeth.com and just buy it.

Buy some of their swag, their merch. All right, here we go. Let's party, people. It's Friday.

There you go. The new EP from Showing Teeth, a fate worse than loneliness available everywhere music can be found. I think they did a pretty fine job for a debut EP, and really looking forward to seeing what that band can do moving forward in the future. Uh, my interview with them's up on YouTube. You can also find that everywhere that podcasts can be found. Just search for the Victor Wilt show, showing teeth, and you should be able to pull that up and listen to it. Turned out pretty good. And uh, yeah, I'm sure we'll be hearing some more of those songs on the station, you know.

No, we roll. All right, then go to showing teeth.com, buy yourself some merch. I would, but I ain't got any money right now because I would like uh a showing teeth t shirt or something like that. All right, I gotta find some freak news. And then before we know it, we got traffic school powered by the advocate's injury attorneys coming up. That's in about an hour, so hopefully, everybody hasn't headed out of town on vacation yet, and we'll get some good callers. All right, I'm gonna be right back.

Hang on. Just sitting here watching this video of this guy dismantle a flock camera. Note two people trying to tinker with these things. They're cameras. And the guy uploaded the video. It shows his face, like clear as day. Well lit.

The sun is shining. What a moron. Hey! Hey, internet, will you help the authorities track me down and throw me in jail? Thanks. I really appreciate it.

Good work. Some people. Alright, uh, let's see. We've got animals attacking people.

You know, I like that. An unusually aggressive mystery animal attacks three people in New Hampshire, including an intense incident caught on camera. Now, they have a still photo from the camera incident. I can't tell what it is. They think it might be like a fox or something like that.

But most people know what a fox looks like. What is it? Came from another dimension. Yeah. Attacked three people.

And then just took off. So they're advising people stay away from the woods. And of course, because it's unusually aggressive, they're like, yeah, if it attacked you, you probably need to go through the rabies treatment, which is miserable. I guess we just can't go anywhere anymore. Can't go out in the woods. Can't go into natural waters. Just stay home.

Alright, uh. This guy really hates fashion shows. This was in uh Amarillo, Texas. Guy threatened to kill five people involved in an Amarillo fashion show. Uh, he was arrested by the FBI.

Um, apparently, he just started sending messages. I'm gonna coat myself with your blood. I have enough for you and your friends. We can all die today.

You'll meet God soon, and then he went to jail. Um No note on why he hated this uh fashion show so much. I they don't give any details in the article as to what type of fashion show it was.

I don't know, maybe he just enjoys thrifting, you know. Uh, some tour ons at Glacier National Park. Got in a fight with some hikers.

They were approaching uh mountain goats. There's video of it, but there's profanity in it. Um, it's pretty funny. Watching two different types of uh hippies yell at each other. Eventually they just went their separate ways.

Cops didn't have to get called or anything, but just a note. If you're in an in the woods, stay away from animals, mountain goat could mess you up pretty bad. I'm pretty sure. We got any mountain goat attacking people videos. Let's just search for mountain goat attacks person.

I'm curious. You don't you don't hear those too often. Mountain goat attacks person. Uh, it's just bringing up the stories about the guys fighting. Stories too fresh. Yeah. Oh, there mountain goat kills hiker in Olympic National Park. So yeah, don't mess with them.

They'll kill you dead. So yesterday, Becca and I decided to take her daughter to the museum. You know, we were hooking up a bunch of museum passes recently. Maybe you've gone and checked out the latest exhibit, uh, life before dinosaurs.

It was pretty cool. You know, we're walking in and there's a couple in front of us with a like toddler. And right when you walk in to the actual exhibit, you know, they got these animatronic dinosaurs.

So every time a small kid would come in the room for the first time, they'd be absolutely terrified. Which uh, you know, made me laugh. Uh, but a cool exhibit, nonetheless. And then we checked out, you know, some of the Idaho stuff, and they're always changing stuff up in there, so it's always good to revisit. As, you know, the local exhibits, especially. It seems like every time I go in, I'm seeing a variety of new things.

And they had one exhibit up talking about like, you know, controversial things in Idaho history. Uh like, for example, I'm walking around a corner and all of a sudden, you know, there's this big swastika. And I'm like, what is that? And uh, you know, it was like a robe or something that had been confiscated from the Aryan nation in northern Idaho. You know, that region has a very bad history with uh white supremacist organizations and things like that, but it is a part of our history. Uh, next to that, they had an exhibit about uh well, some current uh current hot issues in politics relating to like the gay community and things like that, and somebody at this one exhibit had just punched a bunch of holes in a variety of words on it that apparently they didn't like, and it was just one of the most childish and stupid things I've seen to go in and vandalize and deface an exhibit at the museum because it has words in it that you don't like. Well, this is part of Idaho history, the museum is there to represent Idaho history. If you don't like it, just keep walking okay.

You know, like I don't know, I'm I'm trying to think of a comparable example, but I can't think of any because I I just wouldn't go in and do that in any situation at a museum, you know. What a loser. So I had to take some pictures of it and post them on social. Don't vandalize like anything, it's not cool, all right? It's not it's not nice, but uh at a museum, really. What what a baby. So that that was annoying, but the rest of the museum was really good, was really good.

And then here's where my true aggravation begins. We went to Weeby Toys, okay? It's a toy store in downtown Idaho Falls. They have the type of toys you don't tend to find in other stores.

Like as I was looking around, I'm like, what is this stuff? But anyway, the store was fine. But I want to talk about the people that were in line in front of me. Okay. Now I understand if you're out shopping with your kids, it might be fun to let them pay for their own items.

All right. I I've done that with my kids. Um we recently let Becca's daughter, you know, pay for a soda at Maverick.

She got a kick out of it. There's this woman in line. Okay, we there's a line of people. We had a few people in front of us. But the woman at the register, she had like three kids, and they're all buying different things, and they're all trying to pay for their own stuff.

Okay. And so she's like trying to teach them how to do math at the counter. And I don't know if you know me, but I get impatient when I have to wait around when I'm in lines. So I'm waiting, and the kids don't have enough money in their little wallets.

They finally get one of them rang up, then they go to the next kid, and it starts over again. And we're just like, hey, can you pick up the pace? I didn't say it. I didn't say it, but I almost wanted to just go straight Arthur Morgan style and just start talking to them like they're my like a horse. You know, yeah, get hurry up.

And the mom had money. It's like just pay for the stuff and get out of here. I I don't know how long we waited behind them, but it was long enough for me to get severely annoyed. They finally get out of there, and then the people in front of us, it's like bam, out, bam, out, and then we get up there, buyer stuff, bam, out.

Took no time at all. Do not hold people up in line. It's like those people who cause problems at the security checkpoints in the airport.

So infuriating. Like, people got places to be. I had places to be last night. I'm like, all right, uh, we shouldn't have to stand in line for 10 minutes with two customers in front of us. So try to be respectful of others.

I again, I get it. It's fun. Maybe they were on vacation, heading to Yellowstone, and like, all right, we'll go to this, you know, we'll get some souvenirs in Idaho Falls, and yeah, if you want to take the time to teach your kids math in a store, go to the end of the line and wait till there's you know plenty of time available. So the cashiers aren't getting a bunch of people backed backed up. You could tell everyone was getting irritated.

Some people need to learn how to read the room. Thank you again for tuning in to the Victor Wilt Show. This program's of production of Riverbend Media Group. To contact the show or for more information, hit us up at Riverbend Media Group.com.
